Alma Behavioral Group offers some of the best technology available in the world to treat our patients. One of the great things about these advance tests that we offer is that they are objective and it allows us to see the effectiveness of treatment. Not too many psychiatric firms can say the same.
One of the tests that we offer is called brain SPECT (single photon emissions computed tomography). It is a nuclear medicine study that looks at brain blood flow and activity patterns. It basically shows us three things: areas of the brain that work well, areas that are underactive and overactive. This information helps us target drug treatment to individual patient brains rather than broad diagnostic categories.
Having a brain SPECT scan decreases the shame and stigma associated with psychiatric illnesses. Once the patient sees their brain function, they have a better understanding of what they are dealing with and are more positively engaged in the process. A brain SPECT can also uncover hidden brain trauma or toxicity that often goes undetected with conventional evaluation processes.
Another test that we offer is neurotransmitter testing because we at Alma Behavior Group believe that optimal health is only possible when the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems are in balance. Imbalance in these systems occurs as a result of exposure to psychological or physical challenges.
Underlying stressors such as mental stress, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyles, infections, environmental toxins, and/or general immune system regulation will alter the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, which then leads to mental health symptoms and conditions.
Alma Behavioral Group performs and utilizes DNA testing to make well-informed mental health treatment decisions. Performing DNA test on patients provides us with valuable insight about neurochemical imbalances and allows us to choose a course of action to treat the individual based on their genetic and biological predispositions. By zeroing in on the underlying causes of the neuropsychiatric/neurochemical condition, Alma Behavioral Group is able to design more effective psychiatric treatment plans from actionable information.
